Fiddle Club Off To Ireland!

Fiddle Club

Fiddle Club performs at February’s Friday Night Live

After more than 18 months of practicing, rehearsing, planning and fundraising, the Saratoga Springs Fiddle Club has embarked on its first trip to Ireland. The group has been guided and mentored by teachers Jess LaBello, Caitlin O’Donnell, and Erica Nirsberger

The trip will include a number of playing opportunities on their own and with local students. Sightseeing stops will include Trinity College, the Cliffs of Mohr, Blarney Castle, and St. Patrick’s Cathedral.

A high point of the trip is sure to be a master class with Rebecca McCarthy-Kent, the 2011 All Ireland under 18 Fiddle Champion. She has won numerous classical and traditional piano and fiddle awards and also plays with the group SeaNua. What an opportunity for our students!

In addition to the wonderful musical experiences ahead of our students, we also have to recognize all of the other skills that they’ve developed as a result of this endeavor. Things like:

  • Time management
  • Project management
  • Fundraising
  • Event planning
  • Travel coordination
  • Cultural awareness
  • Personal performance improvement

all of these skills are incredibly valuable to other activities, college applications, work, and life in general. Friends of Music is proud to be able to shine a light on the great work our students, our teachers, and our community provide to groups like the Fiddle Club.

I’m sure that they will find “the craic” was quite good all throughout the emerald isles!
