2014-15 Achievements Recap

When you read the recap of the 2014-15 school year below, you are not going to believe it!

The 2014-15 school year was a busy one for the Saratoga Springs City Schools Music Department. Music students from Saratoga HS and Middle School attended 14 Festivals, traveled and performed out of state 5 times, and given more than 45 performances locally throughout the year!

Festivals that we attended include: “Music in The Parks” in Springfield Mass, “NYSSMA Majors” hosted at Saratoga Springs HS, “Festival Disney” in Orlando, FL, Shenendehowa Jazz Festival, Albany Pro-Musica Choral Festival, All-State, Area All-State, 3 All-County festivals, Suburban Council, NYSBDA Honors Band, and 2 Solo festivals totaling 160 student participants.

In March, Choraliers and Symphonic Band Traveled to Orlando FL, to attend Festival Disney and participate in the Disney Performing Arts program. Symphonic band received an Excellent Rating and Choraliers received a Superior Rating. Ben Jacob received an award for best accompanist.

Freshman Chorus, Mixed High School Chorus, Maple Ave and High School Chamber Orchestra, and Maple Ave Select Chorus traveled to Springfield Mass to participate in the “Music in The Parks” music festival in May. All groups received a Superior rating. Liam Epstein received Best Overall Soloist.

Music Field Trips Included: Fiddle Club traveled to Ireland and worked and performed with Irish musicians. Concert Band, Concert Orchestra, Symphonic Orchestra and Freshman Chorus Traveled to NYC to see “Wicked” on Broadway. Chamber Orchestra traveled to Washington DC to perform at Union Station and have a workshop with the United States Army Strings.

Six Band students will join “American Music Abroad” this summer and travel and perform in France, Belgium, Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.

Six students performed in the Pit Orchestra for Calvin Berger and 20 students performed in the pit orchestra for Cinderella.

Our students have worked with the following professional artists this year. Jim Snidero (Jazz Artist), Terrell Stafford (Jazz Artist), New England Conservatory Select Choir, Mark Wood (Electrify your Strings), Mike Meidenbauer (Local Artist), Mark Beaubriand (Local Artist), Ronald Sutherland (conductor), Jeffrey Vredenburg (Local Artist),  and Farrell Goehring (Organist).

We should all be very proud of our musician scholars and their efforts and achievements.
