Racing City Chorus Donates to Music Department
For the past sixty years, Saratoga Springs has been the home of the Racing City Chorus. They are as much a part of summer in Saratoga as horse racing and tourists. These fifty individuals work hard to bring their brand of barber shop harmonies and stylings to our community. Like jazz, barber shop is considered to be an original American art form. The Racing City Chorus have been stalwart champions and ambassadors of this type of acapella singing longer than most of us have been alive!
On Saturday, June 4th the Racing City Chorus will be celebrating their diamond anniversary with two concerts (2 pm and 7 pm) at Maple Avenue Middle School. The chorus and its four quartets will be performing a variety of pieces.
As their way of giving back, the Racing City Chorus will be donating 50% of the net proceeds from this event to the Saratoga Springs High School music department.
Vocal Spectrum, the 2006 International Barbershop International Society world champions, will be performing at both shows. Check out their video below.
The 2:00 PM show will feature the South Glens Falls High School Vocal Point led by Elizabeth Stambach-Fuller.
The 7:00 PM show will feature the Saratoga Springs High School Choraliers led by Kathleen McCarty.
Starting at 9:30 PM, there will also be a traditional Afterglow event hosted at Saratoga Springs Knight of Columbus hall. Hors oeuvres, pizza, and wings will be served during this unique and intimate setting with many of the performers attending.
