Meet Leah Woods
Leah Woods began playing piano at the age of 12. She later picked up the ukulele and began writing her own original music soon after. She was already a seasoned performer when she went to SUNY Purchase to study Studio Composition and Arts Management.
Along with her passion for music she has had a passion to make a difference in the world. Leah has worked at bake sales and neighborhood carnivals for the Arlington Academy of Hope in her hometown of Saratoga Springs, NY. As she matured, so did her fundraising efforts.
In the summer of 2016 she organized a non-profit tour for her soul, R&B, pop group Mama and the Stops. They collaborated with organizations from Saratoga Springs to Virginia Beach raising over $4,500 for non-profit organizations including women’s shelters, homeless shelters, and arts organizations.
This past fall she started the first U.S. branch of Canada-based fundraising organization Generocksity at SUNY Purchase. Generocksity is a completely student-run, non-profit organization dedicated to educating young adults on the importance of philanthropy and how easily it can be integrated into their daily lives. The long-term goal is to develop life-long habits of effective giving.
Her most recent project is called “Melodies 4 Water,” a compilation album to raise awareness about the global water crisis so that people can take action in their communities. The money raised through online sales will go to building water filtration systems in Chiapas, Mexico, in collaboration with a non-profit organization called “Hands 4 Others.”
Leah has also released a new recording called “My Fault” with up and coming rapper Ace Cosgrove. Leah has been collaborating with other fellow musicians and she’s also working on her own projects. Keep up with this busy musician on her website or her Facebook page. She’ll be playing in and around Saratoga Springs both solo and with her band Woods Wylder this summer.
